RE: EKET YOUTHS WRITE GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL, SAYS WE DON’T WANT DAVID LAWRENCE BEYOND 2019
The attention of the Member representing Eket State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon.David Lawrence, has been drawn to a news item circulating in some local newspapers and online news outlets in the state, with the above caption, purportedly written by some youths in Okon Eket, as regards the aspiration of the House member for a second term in office.
We state unequivocally, that the much talked about “agelong zoning,” which proponents of the letter are arguing for, will terminate in 2019.
While appreciating their position in writing to His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, as the Leader of the party in Akwa Ibom State, we make bold to say that, the Governor understands that elections are won and lost at the field, and anyone who is fit enough for the position, can throw in his hat into the ring, for a fair contest.
While agreeing that Hon.David Lawrence was a product of zoning in 2015, Aspirants from other zones were not barred from contesting, as the people had made their choice in 2015.
Part of the communique read, “the Basis for this communiqué is the attempt by one of the current prime beneficiaries of the zoning arrangement to truncate same due to inordinate and selfish ambition”. We make bold to say that, David Lawrence’s ambition is for the overall interest of Ekid people. In his stay in the House of Assembly, he has attracted lots of developmental strides to Ekid, through liasing with the Governor, to site a modern market in Eket, the ongoing construction of a new stadium, just to mention a few.
David Lawrence has engaged in robust legislative and oversight functions in the House.
The lawmaker believes that Government is a work in progress, and has continued to contribute immensely in justifying the mandate of the people entrusted to him.
We believe in the principle of a fair contest, and understands that the people of Ekid will decide who will represent them as a Lawmaker in 2019, as Hon. David Lawrence is poised for a comeback.
We implore every Ekid sons and daughters, to come together, and contribute their quota, in building the Ekid of our dream, and not engage in fisticuffs, that is retrogressive to the future of our land.
