Akwa Ibom 2015: Court Suit Lacks Merit – Enoidem

1

A lawyer and member of the Central Working Committee of the Campaign Team for Udom Emmanuel’s Campaign Organization, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem has dismissed the suit challenging the candidature of Mr Udom Emmanuel as PDP Candidate in the 2015 Governorship Election, describing it as lacking in merit.

Barr. Enoidem maintained that after the delegates’ primaries that took place on the 1st of November, 2014, an appeal panel which was constituted for  the delegates election sat for four days beginning from November 3rd 2014, and none of the so-called aggrieved aspirants filed a complaint about the delegates primaries.

Enoidem said it was then absurd that an aspirant who saw nothing wrong with the delegates list that was used for three previous rounds of primaries namely, House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senatorial primaries, would now turn around to fault the same list in the gubernatorial primaries.

“You can see that the aspirant who could not convinced any delegate to vote for him in his own local government area, and having waited for 37 days after the delegates primaries, now wants to waste the party’s time in a court process that can best be described as speculative and academic.

The Commissioner for Special Duties said it was now a common phenomenon for certain Akwa Ibom politicians to use the court to massage their ego, adding that the case in from whatever point of view, lacks value to stand the test of time.

Barr Enoidem, a former State treasurer of the PDP, said that under the electoral act as it is an exclusive authority of a political party to produce its candidates for elections and as such the court lacks jurisdiction to interfere in an internal pre-election issue.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Media and Publicity sub-committee of the Udom Emmanuel Campaign Organization Mr Aniekan Umanah has urged millions of Udom’s Supporters not to lose any bit of sleep over the said court injunction on Mr Udom Emmanuel’s candidature.

In a telephone conversation with our reporter, Umanah maintained that nobody had the power to reverse the decision of the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party which through its statutory and ad-hoc delegates elected Mr Udom Emmanuel in an exercise that was transmitted live both on terrestrial, cable and online media to the global audience.

He said that process that led to the emergence of Mr Emmanuel’s emergence was very clear and transparent in line with the PDP electoral guidelines.

“As was clearly seen at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium on the 8th of December, the Bola Adebowale-led Electoral Panel instituted by the National Working Committee of the PDP, painstakingly conducted a process that did not bar any of the 25 aspirants of the PDP from contesting, and since one of them has won, it behooves on others as loyal party men to support him in the general elections.”

Also commenting in the same vein, Arc Ufot Ebong the State coordinator of Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN and a personal friend of Mr Udom Emmanuel described the court injunction as frivolous and speculative.

He assured that Udom remains the Candidate of the Party and is on course to be the next governor of the State come 2015.

I still believe it’s time for the peace loving people come together and join hands to maintain what our uncommon Transformer Obong Godswill Akpabio had already put in place for us. This is not time for fighting in a ny reason for choice of leadership in our dear State. Many outside the country had leant a lot from this State, Those who used to asked, “can good thing come out from Akwa Ibom?” they are beginning to answer themselves those painful questions. It’s indeed a state to reckon with in all ramifications. We have a State that is owned by God himself who knows what to do in terms of putting in place what it requires to build a good society. Let’s come together as one people to contune this good work and stop all in-fighting to avoid setback and regret. Our posterity will hold us responsible if we fail as a people to reserve something good for them to move on after we’ve gone. IDIAN UBOK EBOB AKWA IBOM ETI ISONG AKWA ABASI.
