Comoros held Ghana to a shock 0-0 draw in their World Cup qualifier at the Stade Said Mohamed Cheikh Mitsamiouli on Friday to set up a tense return leg in Ghana.
Despite fielding a strong starting line-up that included Swansea star Andre Ayew who captained the team, his younger brother Jordan, Mubarak Wakasso and Chelsea’s Baba Rahman, Avram Grant’s side could not break down the minnows.
Strong favourites Ghana, ranked 30th in the world, later brought on Asamoah Gyan and Emmanuel Agyemand Badu as they desperately sought to win the first leg of the tie.
Comoros, ranked 177th in the world, held on doggedly in front of their home fans and will have something to fight for in the return leg.
The second leg holds in Ghana next week with the aggregate winner proceeding to the final round of the Russia 2018 qualifiers.
