The Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, on Wednesday visited the family of the late Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki in Kaduna to condole with them over the monarch’s death.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Hassan Turaki, in Abuja, said Dogara was accompanied by some members of the house, including Chief Whip, Ado Doguwa and Deputy Leader, Buba Jibril.
Dasuki, who was Sultan of Sokoto between 1988 and 1996, died on Monday night in an Abuja hospital at the age of 93.
Dogara extolled the virtues of the late monarch whom he described as a patriot and an elder statesman.
Responding on behalf of the family, Magajin Garin Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmad Bamalli, expressed gratitude to the Speaker for the visit.
“I want to say a big thank you to the Speaker and appreciate you for coming to condole with us.
“It is a very difficult time for us in the family.
Also, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has described the deceased as a foremost traditional ruler, a prominent Islamic leader, a national icon, highly-referred royal father and a religious leader
Tinubu in a statement issued by Mr. Tunde Tahman of his Media Office, noted that with his death, Nigeria had lost a seasoned technocrat, administrator, diplomat and business titan.
He commiserated with his family, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’as Abubakar, the Sultanate Council, the Islamic Ummah and the entire people of Sokoto State.
The leadership of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam on Wednesday commiserated with the deceased’s family.
In a statement signed by the JNI’s Secretary General, Dr. Khalid Aliyu, in Kaduna, the group said the news of the demise of Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki was received with shock.
They, however, said as mortals waiting for our appointed time, “we take consolation that he has played his part in the development of the Nigerian nation through various platforms of service delivery to humanity.”
The JNI said the late Sultan was indeed an unassuming and affable to all that come his way.
