Activities marking Nigeria’s centenary celebration will begin on Thursday this week through Sunday 2nd March, 2014 in Abuja.

President Goodluck Jonathan will preside over all the activities. Speaking at Uyo, the Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah expressed displeasure over the non- inclusion of Akwa Ibom State in the activities of the centenary celebration.

The Commissioner said the activities marking the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorate of Nigeria will not be complete without including the State in the center of the activities during the fourth coming centenary celebrations.

He said it is imperative for the State to be recognized in the event because it leaves historical sites and monuments in the amalgamation of Nigeria.

Mr. Umanah noted that it was in Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom State that the former Governor General, Lord Luggard, commensurate the southern protectorate of Nigeria which also holds significant artefacts of Lord Luggard in the Country.

He called on the Federal Government to establish a centenary city in Akwa Ibom to accord the State its rightful place in the political history and development of Nigeria
