Zoning: A Catalyst for Peace and Development – Hon Ime Okon

Zoning of political offices across all sections and district of the state has been described as a panacea for peace and development. The member representing Ibiono Ibom state constituency in the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Rt(Hon) Ime Okon made the assertion on Monday when Journalists visited him in his office, in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
The lawmaker who doubles as the deputy house leader and chairman, House Committee on Information in the state’s sixth assembly maintained that when political offices are rotated to every region or section of the state, such areas are bound to witness development in areas of infrastructure and employment to indigenes of the area.
He maintained that when a given section of a local government has a representative in government, such area is likely to experience development as the representative would use his office to attract development to his constituency and also create employment to his constituents.
Hon Ime Okon added that zoning is an effective political tool used to accommodate every strata of the state without any section feeling marginalized, secluded or aggrieved, stressing that when everyone is carried along in the state leadership, there was going to be peace in the state as everyone will have a sense of belonging.
The lawmaker who informed journalists who visited him that, it is the turn of Ibiono Ibom to have a representative in the green chamber of the national assembly said anyone with diverse view is entitled to his or her own opinion but stressed that it is the opinion of the majority that will count at the end of the day.
He commended the state governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel who is the leader of his party, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in the state, for consolidating on the Zoning system and ensuring that elective offices are zoned so as to give a voice to every section of Ibiono Ibom in particular and the state in general.
He also lauded the governor on his attainments since he came into office despite coming at a time when there was menial resources. He added that the governor must be encouraged to succeed in his second term bid even as he expressed confidence that the state would achieve more growth and development by the time the governor complete his tenure in 2023.
