The Department of Vehicle Inspector Officer (VIO) in Cross River State has inaugurated 33 special traffic mayors in the state.
The 33-man team was inducted in Calabar the state capital, with the Governor Professor Ben Ayade as the grand commander.
The officials are expected to assist the department in traffic management and control as well as rescue operations during the yuletide season and beyond.
The Chairman, National Conference of Directors and Chief Road Traffic Officer in the state, Mr Paul Bepeh, stated that part of their responsibilities will also be to assist in decongesting traffic and engaging in public enlightenment where necessary.
