Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that the club are interested in the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford.
Ronaldo, 30, left United for Real Madrid in 2009 for a then world record £80m fee and has become the Spanish side’s top goalscorer.
But there has been intense speculation about an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu in recent seasons.
“We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable,” the BBC quotes Van Gaal as saying. “With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope.”
Ronaldo joined United for £12.24m from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for the 20-time English champions, winning three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and the Champions League in 2008, the year he won the Ballon d’Or.
