I first heard of the name Barr. Chris Okorie in 1996 or there about when he came to marry my neighbor’s daughter (the Late Obong Ekukinam’s daughter) traditionally. Although I was very young then but I could still see how he was loved by the people around him, I could see a giver, I saw a social mixer, a tall handsome down to earth man, a crowd puller, in fact, he was more like an “Obong Efak”. I admired him so much. I can remember asking my dad who he is and what he does for a living and my dad said he was a lecturer at the University of Uyo.

Ever since then, the name “Chris Okorie” has become a household name in Abak, Etim Ekpo and in fact the whole State.
As a Local Government Chairman in Etim Ekpo, he impacted so many lives, irrespective of where you are from. I can remember when he was building his house at Akpan Eno Street, Abak, a lot of young guys built houses simply because he was building. His building materials were freely carted away on a daily basis but he kept replacing them, that was his own way of impacting the people he wasn’t even their Chairman. He gave water to residents free of charge. He is paying school fees to the orphans, he is very accessible and he’s a man of his words.

Barr. Okorie was born on the 6th of November, 1967 at Ibio Edem Urua, Etim Ekpo LGA. He has been in politics since 1991 and has remained constant politically to date. From 1991-1993, he was the Councillor representing his ward. When he left office as a councilor, he was elected as his party chairman where he served from 1997-1998 before he was elected the Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo LGA from 1999-2002.

Barr. Okorie is a man loved by all as he has used every position he has found himself for the benefit of the people irrespective of tribe. Barr. Okorie doesn’t need to know where you are from before rendering any form of help to you, at least his neighbors at Akpan Eno and Abak can testify to this. He has consistently given them bags of rice and meats every festive period till date. A man that doesn’t joke with stomach infrastructure. He has facilitated the employment of many Akwa Ibomites into different parastatals both government and private.

As the Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo LGA, the testimonies of his impactful leadership abounds to this day. It was an era of positive transformation where the development map of the area was redrawn and happiness was brought to the people of Etim Ekpo LGA.

During his tenure, Etim Ekpo witnessed a revolution. Areas that never dreamt of clean water and electricity were opportune to have one courtesy of their working Chairman. Roads were graded and maintained, the Internally Generated Revenue of the area increased, even when the neighbouring Ika LGA was at war, Etim Ekpo was very peaceful, humans were empowered by others.
Before contesting for the Chairmanship position of Etim Ekpo LGA, Barr. Okorie was a lecturer at Law Faculty, the University of Uyo where he resigned in 1998.

Barr. Okorie obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1976 from primary school, Ibio Nnung Achat, obtained his WAEC from Northern Annang Secondary Commercial School, Utu Etim Ekpo. He later proceeded to University of Cross River State, Uyo where he studied Law, he went to law school in 1990 and returned to University of Uyo for his LL.M(Master of Law). Such a learned gentleman.

He has attended a lot of International Conferences/Seminars both within and outside the country which has in turned equipped him for the task of liberating his people and rendering selfless service to his people. He is the Ujo Etim Ekpo, Atuekong Annang, Obong Unwana, Obong Iberedem and Obong Ifiok. It should be noted that the Annangs do not just dash out titles neither are they bought with money but are given on merit. These means that Barr. Chris Okorie is a man of all.

He is a member of over ten professional bodies including The Nigerian Bar Association, Institute of Public Administrators of Nigeria, Fellow, Corporate Administration of Nigeria, Fellow, Certified Board of Administrator etc.

He is a recipient of more than fifty awards. Including Excellence Award for Outstanding Leadership by West African Award Council, Award of Excellence by UNESCO, Award of Excellence for Humanitarian Services by Rainbow Kids International, to mention but a few.

As 2019 draws near, Hon.(Atuekong) Barr. Chris Okorie JP LL.B, BL, LL.M, MILAN CA, FCBA, FCAI, FISMN, FSFD, has the interest in Representing the good people of Etim Ekpo/Ika in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. A vote for him will be a vote for liberation, a vote for integrity, a vote for prosperity, a vote for peace in both Etim Ekpo and Ika LGA, a vote for a man of the people, a vote for truth, a vote for accessibility, a vote for the youths, it will be a support for anything good.

In an era where empowerment boils down to only giving of cars to people that can’t even gas it, bags of rice to people that do not even need it, where sewing machines and other equipment are brought out on the day of constituency briefing only for the camera, Barr. Okorie is here to redefine representation.

Etim Ekpo people will tell you that “Barr. Chris Okorie is an astute and consummate politician, a good mixer, a social mobilizer, and a complete grassroots man. He is very accommodating, accessible, operates a real open door policy and has an uncanny ability to conflict resolution and crises management. He is humble, humane, fair and hardworking. He is a philanthropist. He is a complete family man. A husband of one wife and a father of five lovely children.

As the “Ujo Etim Ekpo, he will speak for us. As the “Atuekong Annang”, he will fight for his people. As the “Obong Unwana”, he will shine for us. As the “Obong Iberedem”, Etim Ekpo/Ika can lean on him. As the “Obong Ifiok”, he will lead with wisdom.

Let’s give development a chance.
