#TheList continues as we count down the finest hip-hop talents at the moment. As stated on more than one occasion, we’re doing it differently this time around. In line with notjustOk‘s ever-growing reach across the African continent, our rap list has been expanded from Nigeria to AFRICA! So, expect a few surprises.

We’re fully into the final quarter of 2015, and in the last 12-15 months, we’ve witnessed the growth of several wordsmiths with dope songs, mixtapes, EPs, albums, tours, endorsements and more.

The 10 Hottest Rappers in Africa 2015 list – compiled by the notjustOk Team – takes into account the hottest names in the African Hip-Hop/Rap scene from the last quarter of 2014 till date. For the rest of the week, we’ll systematically reveal all 10 names on#TheList.

5. Reminisce

Remilekun Abdulkalid Safaru a.k.a Reminisce a.ka Baba Hafusa, as he’s fondly called these days, struck gold in 2011 with his street tailored single “Kako Bii Chicken”. His stock has been on the rise since then, with three studio albums, an impressive catalogue of hit songs, and at least two major endorsement deals.

Reminisce started 2015 the best way possible. He was made brand ambassador of Orijin Bitters in January, followed up by news that his sophomore album “Alaga Ibile” had gone platinum; then he dropped his third studio album “Baba Hafusa” which dominated iTunes Nigeria barely 24 hours after its release. The album peaked at Number 12 on the prestigious Billboard World Music Albums Chart.

You can argue most of his popular songs are not core Hip-Hop/Rap but Reminisce never fails to cater to the core Rap fans. The most talked about Nigerian (rap) single in the past 12 months or so is off his Baba Hafusa album, “Local Rappers”, featuring fellow high-flying indigenous rapper Phyno and the red-hot “pop” star Olamide (Baddo might not pass for a rapper these days, but that’s another story).

With 5 Headies nominations to his name, there is no doubt 2015 has been a successful outing for Reminisce. It’s little wonder TIME Magazine rated him as one of the world’s “most interesting” rappers (the only African on the 7-man list).
