Former Liverpool captain Jamie Carragher has been suspended until the end of the season by Skysport in the wake of the spitting row following the Reds 2-1 loss at Manchester United on Saturday.
The decision to suspend Carragher, it is gathered, was taken after an internal review into his conduct at the incident where he was filmed spitting towards a motorist and his 14-year old daughter.
The 40-year old has apologised to the family and described the incident as a “moment of madness” which he deeply regretted.
Carragher has also been supported by known sports personalities like ex-Manchester United captain now football pundit Gary Neville who wrote on his Twitter page:
I’ve just watched Carra23 say sorry. No excuses he’s made a big mistake . He’s massively passionate about football and he’s overstepped the mark and shouldn’t have reacted . I’ve been on TV for 3 years with him and imo this isolated incident shouldn’t stop us working together

Mail on Sunday Chief Sports Writer, Oliver Holt also pleaded for Carragher. He said:
What Jamie Carragher did is indefensible. It is also entirely out of character. That doesn’t excuse it in any way but as far as I’m concerned, coupled with the remorse he’s shown, it means he’s someone who deserves a second chance. He’s a good man who had a moment of madness.

But the former England defender was removed from Sky’s football coverage and the company will conduct a review prior to the beginning of next season “to establish whether Carragher is fit to return”.
“Jamie has taken full responsibility for what has happened and we will ensure he gets the help he needs to guarantee something like this never happens again,” a Sky statement read.
“Before the start of the next season we will sit down with Jamie to discuss whether he is ready to return to his role.”
Carragher was also dropped by Danish broadcaster TV3 for their coverage of United’s Champions League deafeat to Sevilla on Tuesday night.
