However, many Lagos residents have contrived very easy and cheap ways to cope and these are their tools:

1. Small generators

Tiger generators have been saving the life of Nigerians for a very long time. So when the heat gets unbearable, many people simply fuel their generators and get some much needed air into the house.

Despite the rising price of fuel, many do not mind keeping the generator on all night, so they can get a reasonable amount of sleep, even if it means enduring the noise.

Due to the erratic nature of power supply in Nigeria, many have resorted to rechargeable fans to keep the heat at bay. The fans are relatively cheap and last for a reasonable period after the electricity goes off.

The rechargeable fan business, looks like something a lot of people are willing to get into, because of the increasing demands by Nigerians.

3. Hand fan

Yet unlike small generators and rechargeable fans which can still fail you, hand fans can never fail you. Available in different sizes and style they are essentially the same thing, using your own hand as a device to increase circulation of air around you.

Mentholated powder is one way to survive the heat in Lagos and prevent heat rashes. Lagosians take their bath at night, after which they rub on mentholated powder in large quantities and this keeps them relatively cool.

If everything else is expensive, water is not. So one way they combat heat in Lagos is taking frequent baths. Some take baths every hour to keep themselves cool enough during the especially hot periods.

6. Verandah

A verandah or a balcony is not something you buy, it almost always comes with your and it is one of the easiest ways to get some breeze on your skin.
Most Lagos residents sleep outside on the balcony these days, it is not a surprising sight, and it does make you get enough sleep as long as you are safe.
