Russian plane crashes in Sinai

The Prime Minister of Egypt, Sharif Ismail has announced that a Russian passenger plane carrying over 200 people crashed in the Sinai Peninsula.

According to reports in Russian media, the pilot had reportedly been radioing for the nearest airport for a landing before all contact had been lost.

The plane was heading for St. Petersburg, Russia, after leaving the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

An investigation into the crash has already been ordered by Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The plane crashed in a mountainous region, which has prevented ambulances for easily reaching the crash site.

There is no word yet on whether any of the people on board survived the crash.
