No dull Moment:  Akwa Ibom Head of Service descends on Late comers

….Inspects over 8 ministries, to punish offenders

….We are tired of pretending, let them pay us our entitlements –  workers cry out

It was indeed a black Thursday 1st February, 2018 to some civil servants in the State as the Head of Service Mrs. Ekereobong Akpan shocked them with uninformed inspections of some Ministries to check punctuality to work as well as consistency in the office.

The sad but inspiring inspection by the number one civil servant, Mrs. Ekereobong Akpan was done in company of the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information, Pastor Praise Okon and other Directors from various Ministries.

Addressing journalists after the formal inspection, the Head of Service made it known that over 8 Ministries have been inspected and expressed disappointment that she met scanty members of the workforce in offices as staff of the ministries were not responding to the office duties on time.

Mrs. Akpan assured that those who fall victim of lateness to work will  be punished to ensure that others learn lessons and maintain punctuality in the civil Service.

When confronted,  worker who refused to mention her name for security reasons said, she was into a business to continue maintaining her family since her husband is late and that the government was owing her entitlements as her salary was not enough to sustain her children who she said were are in higher institutions.

Some of the workers who were protesting on the sideline sang songs to advise that government before carrying out any punctuality inspection tour of government Ministries and Department, it should at least pay half of their entitlements to help them come to work on time since they have alternative businesses that fetch them money.
