The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today confirmed the nomination of 5 nominees for the position of Commissioner and Special Advisers in to the State Executive Council. The nominees names were communicated to the House – in line with section 192 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – through a letter from the Governor to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, yesterday and was referred to the Committee on Judiciary, justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions for screening before being presented to the House during plenary.

Those confirmed are Professor Atim Antai, Dr. Ememabasi Bassey, Engr. Iboro Ekanem, and Dr. Glory Emmanuel Edet for the position of commissioners. Prince Godwin Ntukude was also cleared to be appointed Special Adviser.

Confirming their nominations, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Samuel Ikon advised them to be diligent and honest, charging them to use the opportunity given them to contribute their quota to the development of Akwa Ibom State and add value to the administration.

He pointed out that they were chosen on the premise that they will contribute positively to the growth of the state, maintaining that the people of Akwa Ibom State will expect nothing less than success.The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly also warned that the legislative arm will not hesitate to order the removal of any commissioner or special adviser found wanting, in the discharge of his duties.
