The Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Sir Charles Udoh, has said that the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration is committed to diversifying the State’s economy through its 8-point completion agenda.
The Commissioner made this known while fielding questions yesterday on Inspiration Radio programme, “Akwa Ibom Rising “.
He said that in the next four years, the State’s economy will be diversified through the creation of alternative sources of businesses and revenue via aviation development, agriculture, focus on small and medium scale enterprises, human capacity development, security, rural /riverine area development, infrastructure consolidation and industrialisation.
Sir Udoh said that the maintenance and sustainability of all the 16 industries established by this administration are run purely as independent, business-driven entities, as no previous industries that were tied to any government survived.
On the 4 point by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, the Commissioner said that the present administration took over a skeleton building without franchise, and so had to process the franchise by paying 7.2billion dollars to Marriott Group to enable the hotel attain full status.
He said that work is almost completed there, and that in no time, government will say when the hotel will take off.
On Ibom Air, the Commissioner said that the airline has come to stay, mentioning that pictures of the ticketing counters had been made public, adding that the airline’s spare parts’ store was fully stocked for smooth take off.
On the up coming Souls winning Christian evangelistic crusade by the State Government, Sir Udoh said that it is championed by the government to give thanks to God for the peaceful elections in the State, made possible by “ONLY GOD”, which was the gubernatorial campaign mantra of state’s number one citizen.
The Commissioner further stated that owing to political interests during the elections, a lot of youths were drawn into various unwholesome activities, and so government was also staging the crusade to draw them back to God, hand over the State to God, as well as prepare ground for inauguration of the Governor for his second term in office.
