An Apostolic Church Cleric, Apostle Mfon Udoneke, was on Monday, abducted by unidentified gunmen in Ikot Akpa Idem, Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

This is based on information from The Informer Newspaper, a print, and online publishing outlet.

This is coming few weeks after a notorious kingpin, popularly known as ‘Iso Aka’fid’ was killed by security personnel in the area.

The Cleric, The Informer Newspaper reports, was kidnapped in the early hours of Monday, March 12, 2018, at the Superintendent Headquarters, Apostolic Church, Ikot Akpa Idem, where he is currently serving as a Resident Minister.

Informer reports that a source who spoke with our Correspondence on condition of anonymity said the abductors, numbering up to four, allegedly stormed the Church Premises about 5 am on motorcycles and shot sporadically into the air, before whisking away their target.

The source revealed that the Cleric who is a relative to the ex-ExxonMobil Staff and Proprietor of Sure Foundation Polytechnic in Ukanafun, Dr. Idongesit Udom, was preparing for the Women Fellowship Meeting in the Church, when the abductors attacked from the backyard of the church, where they had suspected laid ambushed on the man of God.

A Family source who would not want her name mentioned, said the kidnappers have contacted the family, demanding the sum of N10m before his release.

“The incident is true, he was kidnapped in the early hours of today. But I’m wondering what must have prompted the act, given the fact that he is a simple man. We don’t know where he has been taken to, but they are demanding N10m”, the Source said.

In a related story, a businessman in the Area, identified as Mr. Aniefiok Akpan, has also been kidnapped. Confirmed reports have it that he was abducted at his palm kernel shop in Ata Essien, Afaha Obo in Ukanafun LGA, recently, and has been released, after a payment of an undisclosed ransom.

According to the report, while the businessman was released, her daughter who was designated to dispatch her father’s ransom at an unknown location, was also held hostage by the hoodlums and was released last week, after payment of another ransom amounting to One Million Naira.

Meanwhile, two Elders of New Full Gospel Church of Nigeria in Ukanafun, (names withheld), have been threatened to pay the sum of N1.2m.

A source who is a member of the Church revealed that one of the Elders, in an unaddressed letter dispatched to his residence, has been asked to pay N700, 000 (Seven Hundred Thousand Naira), while the other is to pay N500, 000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) or risk being kidnapped.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. MacDon Oguche, said the police were unaware of the incident.

Efforts to reach the Council Chairman and Chief Security Officer of Ukanafun, Hon. Uko Idiong, proved abortive as he was neither responding to phone calls or text messages as at the time of filing this report.
