Exclusive: What Kogi People Should Expect When Re-elected – Kogi Deputy Governor Speaks

The count down to Kogi guber elections is now in hours. The Deputy governor, Architect Yomi Awoniyi in a brief chat with’s correspondent, Olajide Adelana spoke on INEC’s preparedness, what Kogi people should expect when elected, and clarified rumours that he was having a disagreement with Captain Idris Wada (Rtd), the party’s flag bearer and present governor of Kogi state.

Now that campaigns are over, would you say you are impressed with the turnout of people as you campaigned the length and breadth of the state?

The campaign have come and gone and the response we got is encouraging and for me I consider it a confirmation of what the people will do on Saturday (today).

Would you say your party is well prepared for tomorrow’s election?

Our party is fully prepared for the election having traverse the length and breadth of the state and have met all the concerned, briefed them on our aspiration, what we have done and intend to do in the future.

From what you have seen so far, are you satisfied with the conduct of the electoral body in the state? Do you think they can conduct a free and fair election?

I have not gotten closer to what the INEC is doing but I am sure the should be up to their game since Kogi is an isolated election.

There are allegations that your government intends to stop the payment of workers salaries and arrears as soon as you are elected come November 21, how true is this?

This administration has kept faith with payment of workers salaries since we came on board. Despite the dwindling resources to states we have not retrenched workers and we do not intend to sack anybody.

I have no disagreement with Wada. He is my boss and mentor

News making rounds in Lokoja township has it that you and Captain Idris Wada (Rtd) had a major disagreement. Do you want to shed light on this and is your party united as we go to the polls?

We do not have disagreement we have had cordial relationship. He is my boss and mentor.

If returned to power what are the major things the people of the state should be looking forward to?

We intend to complete all the works we have began and start new ones. We have work going on in the trailer park, remodeling of Kogi Hotels is ongoing, the diagnostic hospital is almost completed. Several work are on going and we intend to begin new ones.

Please note that the people of Kogi state will today, November 21, be going to the polls to vote into power their favourite candidate and this interview was granted 24 hours before the elections.
