Ben Murray Bruce, senator representing Bayelsa east, on Wednesday introduced bills on Electric cars and alteration of 1999 constitution at the senate plenary.

The bills are;

1. Electric Cars (Introduction) Bill, 2019 (SB. 726) by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce. Electric Cars (Introduction) Bill, 2019 (SB. 726) is read the First Time.

2. 1999 Constitution (Alteration) Bill, 2019 (SB. 727) by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce. 1999 Constitution (Alteration) Bill, 2019 (SB. 727) is read the First Time.

He also listed the Objectives of this Act:
(a) Comply with the clean energy policy.
(b) Encourage the use of modern technology,
(c) De-emphasise on oil consumption,
(d) Reduce air pollution.

He said; 2019 marks the first year that electric cars outsold gasoline powered cars in Norway. All industrialised nations have set a date when petrol cars will be banned. If Nigeria does not follow suit, we will soon become the world’s burial ground for petrol.
