Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia is set for an extended spell on the sidelines following news that the player needs surgery on a fractured arm.
The 31-year-old got himself injured in his side’s 1 – 0 EFL Cup victory over rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
He was not named in the squad for their Premier League clash against Burnley on Saturday which ended in a goalless draw.
The Ecuadorian international has been in fine form playing at right back this season under manager Jose Mourinho.
Italian full-back Matteo Darmian, who has been resigned to the bench since the start of the season and started aganst Burnley is expected to continue in that position.
