APC Can’t restructure Nigeria – APC Chieftain

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdullahi Umar Faruk, has called on advocates of restructuring of Nigeria to rather focus on nationalism.
The lawmaker, who is a chieftain of All Progressives Congress ( APC) and a representative of Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency of Kebbi State, said that it would be an unrealisable dream for anyone to expect the ruling APC to allow the country to be restructured under its watch.
Lovers of the country, he said, should call on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of nationalism.
He said: “Honestly, first, I am one of those Nigerians clamouring for nationalism in the country. I want Nigeria to move a step forward from a state to a nation. So all these primordial sentiments I don’t share them.
I wish that one day every Nigerian from any part of the country would be proud to be one of the citizens of this country.
“I would like to see one day a Hausa man going to the East to have a residence there as a Nigerian and have the right to represent Nigeria in any political capacity from that part of the country without saying he is a Hausa or an Igbo.
“We should jettison the issue of we, we and they, they and them, we can never move forward in the 21st Century. We should be thinking of nationalism in the sense of creating a nation and not creating nations out of the nation call Nigeria,” he said.
Hon. Faruk also stated that as long as Nigerians are not prepared to live in the big nation call Nigeria, “we can never take our rightful position within the continent of Africa in the global space. So, we have been clamouring for this since 1963, restructuring, restructuring, restructuring which actually ought not to be focused.”
