The chief medical director of the state owned Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH),Sagamu, Professor Alfred Jayesimi, has appealed to the state government to urgently intervene at the deplorable state of the medical facility.
He said the intervention will enable it to provide specialised and excellent emergency services for the people.
Jayesinmi made the appeal during the over sight function visitation of the state House of Assembly committee on health to the hospital yesterday November 12.
He expressed concern over the inadequate medical equipment to train the students.
While addressing the committee members on the institution as regards the 2015 budget performance as at August, 2015, Jaiyesinmi disclosed that the teaching hospital lack adequate facilities in areas like; Radiology, Theatre Services, Renal Dialysis Services, Laboratory and Neo-natal.
Jayesinmi further stated that there is an urgent need to increase the bed-space to 32 from its present number, so as to reduce congestion while emphasizing that the hospital lack enough space for both the eye and the ante-natal clinics.
He said: “There are no basic training schools for post basic Nursing, Radiography and Medical record. Virtually, all areas of the hospital, including the trauma, medical ward, surgical and paediatrics’ wards need modern equipment to cope with the volume of the ever increasing surgical services of the hospital.”
Responding, the chairman, House Committee on Health, Nurudeen Aina-Akinpelu expressed displeasure over the sorry sight condition of the hospital, assured that face lift will be given to the teaching hospital, adding that, health is one of the five cardinal programme of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration in the state.
He further gave assurance that the state government would always give priority to welfare of its people.
The Assembly man, who represents Ota constituency 1, promised that government will provide all the needed medical equipment for effective health delivery to its people.
