Akwa Ibom to Host 2014 National Council on Communication Technology

Akwa Ibom State Government is to host the 2014 edition of the National Council on Communication Technology.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Clement Isong stated this while presenting the progress report of his ministry at the meeting of the College of Permanent Secretaries.

He said the State won the bid following the adoption of three of its articulated recommendations for implementation as a national policy by the council at the second meeting of the council held in Ondo in 2013.

The Permanent Secretary said the Ministry has plans to expand the E- library projects to three sub- sectors in the three senatorial districts of the State to enable readers and users of the facilities outside the State capital have access to the E- library in Uyo which he said serves as a central point.

Mr. Isong announced plans to upgrade the existing mobile internet unit in the Ministry and the procurement of additional units to ensure that the facility is available to school children especially those in rural communities.

In the meantime, the Permanent Secretary informed his colleagues that the Ministry’s Research and Development Laboratory which has obtained accreditation by the Federal Ministry of Environment at the Directorate of Petroleum Resources is to be upgraded and positioned to obtain a working permit to commercialize its activities.
