Akwa Ibom State Government Open To Partnership With Investors In Renewable Energy Sources
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prof. Nse Essien has disclosed that Akwa Ibom State government is open to partnering investors in renewable energy sources with a view to making electricity available at a lower cost to the grassroots.
Prof. Nse Essien made the disclosure in his office when representatives of Green Energy Nigeria Company Limited, a subsidiary of an energy company based in Poland visited him to make graphics presentation on the renewable energy solution for the State.
The Commissioner said the Palm Kernel Shell (PKS), is the energy source of the presentation is being wasted here and if it can be harnessed to generate electricity and produce fertilizer as by-product, it will be a welcome development.
He assured the group that his Ministry will institute meaningful engagement with them to explore areas of collaboration for the benefit of the State.
Earlier in his presentation, the leader of the group, Mr. Darek Poteralski harped on the use of Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) to produce electricity by feeding the kernel shells and water into a plant and burning them to steaming level to turn the turbines to produce electricity.
He said as a source of renewable energy, this method is cheaper than solar energy, safer and easier to maintain because of ready and available raw materials in our localities, as the palms continue to bear fruits almost in perpetuity.
Mr. Poteralski said his outfit is ready to partner the State to see to the fruition of the project if given protection of its patent and a conducive environment to operate.
On hand to witness the presentation was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Deaconess Affiong Okpo, Directors, and Heads of Directorate.
