If President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo and their kitchen cabinet are sincere about cutting the cost of governance in the country, they should have called in Peter Obi as Honorary Chief Adviser on Revenue and Expence Control for the Ministries, Departments and Agencies. A kind of Prime Minister over expenditure control.
Give him unfettered powers to design, structure and implement total RESTRUCTURING of the fiscal expenditure framework of the MDAs in such a way that no one can compel an agency under their ministry to provide them with N32m for a Chinese trip the way the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, did recently. Obi has the demonstrated experience to execute this assignment perfectly.
However, I don’t think they will allow such, since they have graduated from drinking sachet Milo and Lipton tea before the elections to eating N1.7bn meals after assuming power.
They have also graduated from flying economy class in commercial jets before election to wasting over N5bn to fuel and maintain 11 aircraft after assuming office.
Rather than accept the pragmatic chastening and make the needed prudential adjustments to win over the average Nigerians, who are already disillusioned with them, they have chosen to beef up their media attack team with a 70-year-old political jobber with a very controversial background.
