No fewer than 10 persons were injured in a stampede during the inauguration of Emeka Ihedioha, the new governor of Imo state.
It was learnt that the victims including a pregnant woman were at the inauguration venue, Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri yesterday.
According to Dr Francis Igwe, a member of the medical team, he said that there was a massive crowd at the venue and they suspected that there may be an emergency situation.
He added that there was no loss of lives and the victims were revived as members of the Red Cross Society were seen assisting in rescue operations during the stampede.
Igwe said the medical team led by Dr Vin Udokwu were able to bring the situation under control.
“When we saw the crowd, we suspected that there may be an emergency situation; we quickly put our personnel and equipment together just to get ready,” he said.
