Igbo Community in Akwa Ibom State, Eket Chapter, an affiliate of Ohanaeze Ndigbo have concluded their “2016 IGBO DAY” celebration with a call on them to advance the frontiers of Peace, development of the host community and participate actively in the developmental, Leadership and socio-economic process of the host community.
The call was made yesterday by a foremost humanitarian and Founder of Marcel Ofomata Foundation, Chief (Dr) Marcel Ofomata who was also the Chairman on the occasion.
Declaring the well attended event open at the Council Secretariat of the oil rich Eket Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, the Chairman on the occasion observed that the Ndigbo in Eket have lived and contributed modestly to the socio-economic development of the host community for the period under review and called on them to rise up, participate and support the government in every developmental projects. He charged them live in peace, unity and continue to be their brothers’ keeper irrespective of any interest or differences.
Chief Ofomata thanked the leadership of the organization, the planning Committee of the event and the entire members for coming out in good numbers to grace the event stressing that such assemblage will spur unity, love, development, good neighborliness and brotherhood.
High point of the event was the launching of the 2017 Calendar and presentation of Honorary Community Awards.
The Chairman on the occasion who is also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Africa’s leading Asset financing company, Amaecom Global Limited, Chief(Dr) Marcel Ofomata was awarded as “Aku N’Esi Obi Ike” in recognition of the numerous empowerment, Scholarships, entrepreneurship and skills Acquisition of his foundation and employment creation of his company.
Others who were also awarded were Senator Helen Esuene, Chief Ndueso Essien, Obong Nsima Ekere (NDDC Chairman) HRM E. C. D Abia (Paramount Ruler of Eket), Rt. Hon. David Udofa (Member Representing Eket at Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly), Hon. Frank Archibong (Eket Transition Committee Chairman), Brig. Gen. Anthony Etukudo, rtd, Obong Emmanuel Obong ( Eket PDP Chapter Chairman) among others.
The event featured cultural presentation by the Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States troupes.
