The 2013 Carnival Calabar theme was unveiled yesterday at the main bowl of the Cultural Center, Calabar. It was a glamorous and straight-to-the-point event attended by the executive governor of Cross River State His Excellency Liyel Imoke and his team members, top government functionaries, VIPs and major players in the Cross River State Entertainment Industry.

The theme for the 2013 Carnival Calabar is ‘Ain’t No Stopping Us‘. Other attractions at the event were the Carnival Calabar Welcome Dance by CCBA, comedy presentations, music performance by Spydaman and presentation of award/prizes to the winners of last year’s edition of the carnival.

Carnival Calabar – Africa’s Biggest Street Party”, was created as part of the vision of making the Cross River State in Nigeria, the number one tourist destination for Nigerians and tourist all over the world.The carnival which begins on every 1st of December and last till 31st December every year has boosted the cultural mosaic of Nigeria people while entertaining the millions of spectators within and outside the State, and boosting industry for all stakeholders.

For the junior category in last year’s edition, Best Interpretation of theme went to Masta Blasta, Reflection of carnival spirit – Seagull Band; Best Junior King – Masta Blasta; Best Junior Queen – Seagull; Best interpretation of theme – Seagull; Best costumes band – Masta Blasta; Best Overall Band – Seagull Band; 2nd Prize – Masta Blasta; 3rd Prize – Passion 4.

In the senior category, Best Overall Band – Masta Blasta – 2nd Prize – Passion 4 – 3rd Prize – Freedom Band; Reflection of carnival spirit – Masta Blasta; Best Decorated Float – Masta Blasta; Best costumed Band – Masta Blasta; Best King – Seagull Band; Best Band on the move – Masta Blasta and Best Queen – Seagull Band.
