The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to stop blaming past administrations and the opposition for his government’s inability to create jobs and settle pensioners.

The party also advised the governor to focus more on the business of good governance and address the infrastructural deficiencies in the state.

PDP chairman in Edo, Mr Dan Orbih, gave the advice on Tuesday during a press conference in Benin City, the state capital where the party publicly appraised the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in the past one year.

He called on the state government to address squarely, the poor security situation in Edo as one of the prerequisites of attracting investments into the state.

Mr Orbih, who stated the position of the party, said the PDP as a responsible opposition would continue to speak out whenever there was a foul play in the governor’s government.

“Let me congratulate Edo people for having survived so far the one year of hardship, and visionless government of the Obaseki administration of the state,” he said.

“For the PDP in Edo State, the current administration has brought more pain than gains to the people of this state”.

This comes more than a year after Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, were sworn in on November 12, 2016, to pilot the affairs of the state.

Other areas the PDP accused the government of failing included the payment of pension arrears and gratuities to retirees, as well as non-provision of jobs and good healthcare systems among others.

The party also faulted the latest report released by the Debt Management Office which indicated that Edo was the second most indebted state in the country.

But in a swift reaction to the poor appraisal by the PDP, the APC said the party was only ignorant of the benefits of Governor Obaseki’s vision for Edo State.

APC chairman in the state, Mr Anselm Ojezua, said the governor has surpassed records of past administrations in the prudent management of the state.
