he Human Immuno-deficiency Virus and the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) prevalence rate has dropped in Akwa Ibom State, according to figure from the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA).
Akwa Ibom State, which was ranked second among states most affected by the scourge, revealed that the current prevalence rate has dropped remarkably in recent times.
Speaking on Sunday, the chairman of SACA, Akwa Ibom State, Dr Francis Udoikpong, attributed the significant drop in the prevalence rate to the commitment of the state government towards protecting the population from being endangered by health problems.
According to Udoikpong, the fight against the malaise was in line with the health policies and programmes of Governor Godswill Akpabio’s administration which ensured that emergency cases were taken care of promptly.
To achieve this, he pointed out that his agency has been embarking on full scale education, sensitization and enlightenment of the populace on the dangers posed by the malaise on the active population.
He appealed to the people to imbibe the essential values by shunning illegal blood transfusion including blood oath, unsafe sex, barbing with public clippers and other measures to avoid contracting the virus.
