The Ekiti state government has declared that it will no longer condole a situation whereby public school teachers in the state will be away from duties under the guise of being on study leave.

This was stated by the state deputy governor, Kolapo Olusola, while addressing the teaching staff of the Annunciation Secondary School, Ikere- Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Olusola revealed that it has been brought to the attention of the state government that some teachers were dubiously using study leave to stay away from their duties.

He said: “Imagine teachers on study leave for 4 to 5years for Masters Programme. Under normal circumstances, ‎you are supposed to spend two years and then 50% of that period. Now, 2011 to 2015, somebody says he is still on study leave, as far as we are concerned, that is not acceptable.”

The deputy governor said it was unpatriotic for an individual to be dodging, the labour at which he is earning his leaving ‎and receiving salary at the end of the month.

“Payment of salaries to such person caught in the act will be stopped and the principal who harbour’s them will also be sanctioned,” the deputy governor charged.

Olusola affirmed that the issue of absenteeism will no longer be condoled.

However, he directed all Principal concerned to compile and forward the list of teachers currently on study leave to his office.
