Oro Nation is comprised of five Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria namely Oron, Udung-Uko, Mbo, Urue-Offong/Oruko, and Okobo. The Oros are the third largest ethnic group in the state. The Oron people, popularly called ‘Oro Ukpabang’ or ‘Akpakip Oro’ by its indigenes, are made up up of several clans. Oron town is the third largest city in Akwa Ibom state after Uyo and Eket. Oron has a seaport and a Maritime Academy which is soon to become a nautical university. The predominant occupation is fishing and farming. Last year, Oro Carnival was held – the first of its kind in that part of the state and this vision was excellently pioneered and delivered by the able Chairman of Oron Local Government Council Orman Esin [pictured above with his beautiful wife]. The week-long event featured display from different parts of Oro nation, traditional arm-wrestling, a musical concert and of course the carnival float. Here are pictures of the carnival..enjoy!
