Songstress and Actress, U Kelly visited Uyo for the Easter celebrations and spared some time with entertainment journalists in the state to appreciate their support for her music. It was a memorable session, as she shared her passion with music, her experience and travails in the industry so far. U Kelly had tasted the waters of acting in Nollywood, grabbing outstanding roles in movies and soap operas like ‘The Strikers’, ‘Raindrops’, ‘Obong Efak’, and ‘Every Woman’.
According to her, “Initially I was doing music for the fun, but over time, people’s appreciation of my works spurred me to soar higher and pursue a musical career diligently”.
She owes her success to the musical background her late father brought her up in; ‘I miss my dad, Mr. Effiong from Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, he was a reggae musician with the Dready Boy s Musical group, I used t follow my father to the club and to shows, little did I know that I will be doing this today’.
In less than a year of her professional venture into music, U Kelly already has 4 tracks and a video to her credit, her debut was ‘Everything’ with Dance Hall King of many years-Pasto Goody Goody.
After the chat with her, the energetic songstress expressed so much confidence and determination to be the best in her chosen career; ‘my new track ‘Oun Wo Mi’ a Yoruba phrase meaning ‘Looking at me’ has been receiving lots of applause, so I hope to shoot the video soon. I am so determined for the top, and I won’t rest until I feature the likes of Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Kanye West’.
