Buhari bothered about problems in South Sudan; issues promise to ambassador (photos)

– President Buhari received the ambassadors of South Sudan and Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic

– He assured them of Nigeria’s continued support

– The president expressed worry over the problems in South Sudan

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed disappointment over the disturbing political developments in South Sudan which had continued due to the non-implementation of peace accord signed by the leaders.


In a statement by Femi Adesina who is the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Buhari promised that African union will see to peace being achieved in the region.

The president made this comment when he received the letter of credence of the ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan, Mr. Paul Malong Akaro, at the State House in Abuja on Monday, November 28.

President Buhari noted that South Sudan has the potential for growth but blamed the said delay in implementing the peace accord as the cause of the country’s problem.

He said: “I was a little disappointed with the subsequent developments in your country. I was hoping that we can move forward and develop the great potentials of your country after the peace accord.

“The African Union will continue to hold your leaders to account in implementing the peace process. And the leaders should be able to accommodate one another for the good of your people.”

Mr. Akaro said South Sudan was still committed to achieving peace and thanked Buhari for his support.

“We know that the only way we can achieve stability and development is to implement the peace process. We are grateful for your support.”

The president also received the letter of credence of the ambassador of Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mr. Malainine Sadik-Bachir.

The president also assured the country Nigeria will continue to give it support.

He said: “You can be assured that Nigeria will remain steadfast in her support for Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic. We will continue to do our best for you.”
