Nigerian forward Samuel Kalu was among the scorers for Gent who thrashed visiting Zulte-Waregem 5-2 in the Belgian Championship title play-offs on Thursday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Kalu scored in the 59th minute to make it 3-0 in favour of Gent.
The goal was Kalu’s third in 15 appearances for Gent this season.
Other scorers for Gent are Kalifa Coulibaly (brace), Yuya Kubo and Kenneth Saief.
Zulte-Waregem’s goals were scored by Mbaye Leye and Henrik Dalsgaard.
Also in action for Gent were Nigerians William Troost-Ekong and Anderson Esiti who were impressive and both played for 90 minutes.
In another Belgian Championship title play-off on Thursday, Nigerian forward Joseph Akpala scored the winning goal as Oostende beat visiting Club Brugge 2-1 at home.
Akpala scored in the 82nd minute to give Oostende the win.
David Rozehnal opened the scoring for Oostende but Wesley made it 1-1 for Club Brugge on 72 minutes.
Akpala has now scored two goals in 16 league games for Oostende this current campaign.
Gent are third (Europa League spot) on 41 points in the six-team Championship title play-off table and are eight points off leaders Anderlecht.
Oostende are fourth in the table on 37 points.
Gent’s next game is on Sunday away to Club Brugge, while Oostende will also be away to Anderlecht.
