Find out what i think the new minister of housing should do in the real estate sector.
Babatunde Fashola has been sworn in as the minister of housing, power and works.
While he is no doubt basking in the joy of his new appointment, i have a few suggestions for the former governor of Lagos state.
It is my opinion that Fashola should do the following in the real estate sector:
Provide affordable housing units- It is old news that Nigeria has a housing deficient that needs 17 million housing units annually. In light of this, i think this should be the minister’s first task.
Enforce monthly rents- Nigeria is probably the only country in the world where landlords and ladies collect rent yearly. As the new minister of housing, i think Fashola should pass a law, of sorts, that prohibits landlords/ladies from collecting annual rent from their tenants.
Implement a viable mortgage scheme for Nigerians.
Do you agree?
