PDP stakeholders in Akwa Ibom state have passed a vote of confidence on Governor Udom Emmanuel and have vowed to support him for a second term in office.

At a meeting in Uyo, they agreed that the governor has performed creditably well despite the current recession in the country.

In a motion moved by Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and seconded by the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke, stakeholders of the party including serving and former public office holders, House of Assembly members, former governorship aspirants under the platform of G22, commissioners and Special Advisers, former and serving officers of the PDP, National Assembly members, ward and chapter executives of the party, among several others today threw their overwhelming support on Governor Emmanuel.

They said they were satisfied with his achievements in the past two years and pledged their support for his re-election. 

Speaking further while proposing the motion, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Akpabio said “Governor Udom Emmanuel is doing a spectacular job. We must commend him for his ability to unite the State. The National Assembly Members from Akwa Ibom State are proud of you and express their full confidence in you. We are very satisfied with your performance in the past two years…

Given the achievements you have recorded in the past two years, I want to pass a vote of confidence on your administration and to endorse you for a second term in office.”

The Senator representing Uyo Senatorial district, Senator Bassey Albert officiated over the resolution of the stakeholders at the meeting

Former Governor Godswill  Akpabio said he was delighted to be part of the meeting, maintaining that personalities present indicated that “we had the most fantastic succession in the whole of Nigeria.” 

“I can confirm that indeed we brought in a square peck in square hole, I can confirm that his Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel with his team is doing very well under the circumstance of today.”

He said that it is not in every State that such caliber of persons could be assembled in a short period and added that “unlike other States, here in Akwa Ibom State, the PDP family is totally intact and ready for election come 2019.”

“Your Excellency I must say that for the ability to reconcile the party in the state is highly commendable, On behalf  of myself with the entire members of the National Assembly I want to say that you have done very well even with us in the National Assembly.”     

Responding, Governor Emmanuel said he was delighted to see crème de la crème  of politics in Akwa Ibom state and Nigeria in the banquet hall. 

He described PDP stakeholders as people of high integrity and maintained that despite the furrow at the national level, “Akwa Ibom is still PDP and PDP is Akwa Ibom. I want to thank all of you for remaining steadfast with our great party.”

The governor appreciated the senate minority leader for what he described as his passion  and demonstration of leadership.

He said that irrespective of the outcome of the supreme court judgement, the number of PDP followers in the state will rather increase than decreasing as far as Akwa Ibom is concerned.

He expressed his desire to continue to impact positively in the state in line with his campaign promises to the state.

The meeting which was at the instance of the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Obong Paul Ekpo, saw goodwill messages received from the Speaker of the House of Assembly Barr. Onofiok Luke and  former Governor, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga.
